One of the fundamental values of both the IB profile and our educational project is to educate and work with a positive and optimistic attitude. Being positive and optimistic is related to having a balanced emotional and rational attitude. In a world where scepticism and relativism are often the easiest and most common discourse, we believe that there are well-founded reasons to face the vicissitudes of life with optimism. The media has become a medium in which negative news outweighs positive news and where weighted analysis has been exchanged for emotional and epistemological biases that give us a distorted picture of reality.
Positive thinking is a mental and emotional attitude of expecting good and favourable results, and not being discouraged when things do not go as expected. Positive thinking is closely related to self-confidence, another of the core values of our educational project. It is certainly the practice or result of concentrating a person’s mind affirmatively on the positive and constructive aspects of a matter in order to eliminate negative or ultimately unhelpful attitudes and emotions.
