Core Values of International Baccalaureate® students

International Baccalaureate® has a number of core values that are similar to Maristes Sants-Les Corts values.

As important as it is to have ‘hard skills’ and ‘soft skills’, it is also important to have a sound base of core values that will govern your attitudes and principles of conduct, both in your personal and academic life, as well as in your professional career in the future. Clearly there are values that can be shared among people, but each pupil has to build his or her own ‘universe of core values’.

The importance of core values: It is essential to have hard skills and soft skills, but the backbone, the basic structure where all the skills come together are the core values of each student. Their ethical intuitions, their convictions about how their world has to function and how they have to carry out their actions in a complex situation. Values are deeply held beliefs in which certain attitudes and qualities we believe are highly sought after. They define what is right or fundamentally important for each of us. They serve as guidelines for our decisions and actions. Our basic values determine what is truly important for each individual. When we make the decision to follow our core values, we cannot easily be convinced to go against them. To be truly successful in our lifelong journey, we need to establish and develop clear and concise core values. Our core values are fundamental in defining who we are, what we do and where we are going. Once defined, our core values must guide us in all aspects of our daily lives.
